How Long Will it Take to Learn a New Habit?

Maybe you have one of these goals in mind, and the question is how long will it take to have them stick?

I'm sure you've heard it takes 21 days to learn a new habit. Well, don't believe everything you hear, because current research disputes this finding. The 21-day theory was purported by Dr. Maxwell Maltz in a book he wrote back in the 1950's called Psycho-Cybernetics, A New Way to Get More Living Out of Life

More recently, one study published in the European Journal of Social Psychology report on average of 66 days. In the study they surmised with the inherent variables of human behavior, it can take anywhere from 18 to 154 days to hard-wire a habit.

What's most important is to recognize a habit can take up to 8 months to become a habit. So don't be hard on yourself for not getting the results you seek in a shorter amount of time.

The Rocketship Wellness Academy offers a free 30 and 60-day program to take on the life. Since this time appropriation is well under the threshold of the finding in this one particular study, we feel that many improvements can be achieved within this time frame.

To Give is to Receive

From early on in life, I always liked to teach and share with everyone what I learned. This solidifies the fact that when you help others, you help yourself.

Echoes from Zen Philosophy

I stumbled upon Zen philosophy many years ago by way of a small book called Zen Flesh Zen Bones. There was a Koan that went like this:

While Seisetsu was the master of Engaku in Kamakura he required larger quarters, since those in which he was teaching were overcrowded. Umezu Seibei, a merchant of Edo, decided to donate five hundred pieces of gold called ryo toward the construction of a more commodious school. This money he brought to the teacher.

Seisetsu said: "All right. I will take it." Umezu gave Seisetsu the sack of gold, but he was dissatisfied with the attitude of the teacher. One might live a whole year on three ryo, and the merchant had not even been thanked for five hundred.

"In that sack are five hundred ryo," hinted Umezu. "You told me that before," replied Seisetsu. "Even if I am a wealthy merchant, five hundred ryo is a lot of money," said Umezu. "Do you want me to thank you for it?" asked Seisetsu. "You ought to," replied Uzemu. Why should I?" inquired Seisetsu. "The giver should be thankful."

Echoes from Zig Zigler

Then later in life I came across a great business philosopher named Zig Ziglar. From Secrets of Closing the Sale written in 1984, Zig professes "You can get everything in life you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want."

Echoes from the Bible

Here's a phrase from the bible Luke6:38 that reads: "Give and it will be given unto you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."

Echoes from David Allan

When you give and do it without wanting anything in return, you're on the higher road to true joy and happiness. True happiness and joy can only occur inside of you. It's the ultimate satisfaction that spreads positive vibrations throughout the universe. Help yourself and make life worth living by giving and doing your best every single moment.

Your New Year's Resolution Solution / Doctor's Confession

NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTION SOLUTION: START ANYTIME

The new year is a great time to start a to-do list for improving yourself, but in reality isn't anytime the right time to begin?

And when you start, do it right and give yourself a better chance to succeed. It all comes down to whether or not you're ready, because if you start a resolution and fail... most likely you weren't really ready. Failure could be on account of not preparing? Or didn't have the support you needed? Or didn't have the right plan? So many variables to clog up the success channel. And if you succeed in your goals, what happens from there, and what's gonna make your resolution stick?

Why Do This?

What's all the fuss about resolutions anyway? In nature things grow wild, and that's a beautiful thing. If you ever tended a garden, there's lots to do to keep your garden from going wild. Weeds prop up, and insects can really be an obstacle to cultivating beautiful flowers or edible fruits and veggies. In creating a successful life, you must have a plan and a resolution to get better. A resolution is nothing more than a goal.

Doctor's Confession

I can relate to succeeding in a resolution last year only to find myself treading water backwards to my starting point. I lost 20 pounds (from 185 to 165) and was so excited to look and feel better. I took my suits to be altered to my new size, and I proclaimed that I would never ever go back to that weight again. Fast forward one year, and I gained back half the weight tipping the scale at 174.5.
So I begin again, and I've learned a little more about myself and human nature. First off, don't even think that you understand what's deeply ingrained in your subconscious. Secondly, after you successfully complete your resolution, continue to reinforce your new habits, and/or start a new set of goals. One thing is for certain, and that is change. You can either choose to set a plan to participate in that process, or plan to fail. The good news is that anytime you decide to start and discipline yourself to be better, then you will change for the better.

I have set a new resolution for 2017 to shed my gained weight, and vow once again never to gain it back. And the very best chance of success, is with a Rocketship Wellness 60-Day program. Why not join me by setting up a New Year's Resolution? Or why not start a New Year's Resolution anytime. Dream big; Take Action; Achieve. When you're ready, say it's possible and let's talk.

42-Day Update

These posts are meant to stir curiosity, enthusiasm, and contemplation. Maybe you're just looking to see what results I come away with, or maybe you too need inspiration as you begin your own 60-day program.

I've been around cleanses before, so I'm not surprised at where I'm at right now, nor will I be surprised what will happen after the 60-days are up and beyond. For me, It's just been too long not having done a program like this, and now I mostly feeling a sense of relief. I look better and feel better, and I know this is the first step to running a wellness company the right way.

So far, I've lost 15 pounds, and I continue to have extremely high energy. I've lost a lot of my gut, but see that I have a little ways to go. Then there's the part of me that is exercising regularly.

The progress one gets from a good cleanse such as this one, all depends where you are with your health, and what your particular goal(s) is/are. Don't for one second, think that you have to structure all your meals like I have. No way. One thing I want you to notice as a theme throughout the meal plan is to pay attention to the quality of the food you are eating. For the cleanse, I suggest to stay away from all processed foods, GMOs, pasteurized dairy, and non-organic foods.

The framework of this plan is very simple. If you let us help you and you commit, then so will we. Here's a 30 minute video explaining the program. In a nutshell, you eat foods that are in category I and category II  from the New West Diet. At the same time you are taking 7 supplements that will help facilitate the cleansing process of the colon and the blood

30 minute overview of the 60-Day Cleanse

Also as part of the update, I wanted to report to you how I'm doing after adding a few other products to the program. Since I was looking for more bowel movements, I added Bentonite and Psyllium and cayenne capsules. This has really helped a lot, and it goes to show that our program is not a one size fits all.

Besides the weight loss, I've been more motivated to study more as: bout nutrition in general. I've come across a few good books on the nutrition and wellness Healing: Achieving Total Wellness Through Higher Levels of Consciousness by Dr. David Hawkins, M.D., and Burn the Fat - Feed the Muscle by Tom Venuto.

I listen very closely to each patient to find out what other possible service or product could help facilitate the cleansing process.

DAY 33 of 60 - LOSE THE GUT CHALLENGE

Every action needs to be prompted by a motive.

Adding Support Products To The Program

I mentioned in an earlier post how important it is to be flexible with any goal you put forth. It's day 33 of the 60 day cleanse, and I decided to change a few things and then evaluate. I've lost 10 pounds so far on the program, and need to accelerate the weight loss a little bit to be ready for my party. I've mentioned that I'm going topless and have to be ready for this crazy event.

RAW CANE SUPERJUICE DETOX

For the next three days... Day 33 to 36, I'll be embarking on a three day cleanse using the Raw Cane Superjuice Detox Elixir. This is variation of the master cleanse program originally created by Stanley Burroughs. There's a video below that will give you some background on the Master Cleanse. Also, here are the instructions that are suggested during the cleanse.

If anyone has done the master cleanse, you know you usually don't feel that great on the program until day 3 or 4 due to the healing crisis. That's because you're coming off of a diet full of processed foods and the elimination of toxins from the body . Since I've been on such a great diet and supplements for the last 32 days, I don't expect many or any side affects, and looking forward to this 3-day program cleanse. The juice was provided by Raw Cane Superjuice, and I'll look forward to telling everyone more about it on Day 37. I can tell you that it's very similar to the master cleanse, and I anticipate getting some great results.

FAQs about the Master Cleanse

BENTONITE & PSYLLIUM

Here are some other additions I've added to my 60-day program. I want to see more elimination, and I know these two choices can really help. First we have Bentonite Detox from Yerba Prima, which is kind of an absorbent clay formed by the breakdown of volcanic ash mixed with water to form a liquid. Click HERE for some product information. Due to its molecular structure, bentonite has the ability to find two toxins in the digestive tract.
Next is Organic Whole Husk Psyllium from the company Organic India. Psyllium is an excellent source of natural dietary fiber. This product is pharmaceutical grade and contains no sugar, sodium, cholesterol, fat, or additives, and best of all it's organic.

Adding psyllium to your diet promotes healthy elimination and regularity. I am mixing both the psyllium and bentonite together in a tall glass of water. I'm happy to say that this solution has no taste and very easy to consume. When you take products like these, you must always follow up by drinking extra water.

Here's some of what food and drink I consumed on my lose-the-gut mission from day 29 to day 33...

BREAKFAST DAY 29

Organic whole grain hot oatmeal with dates, and soaked and dehydrated raw,
unpasteurized almonds, cacao nibs, ground vanilla bean, along with raw fresh coconut water and young coconut meat.

LUNCH DAY 29

Yellow peas in a buckwheat wrap, topped with avocado, and some kale chips that are homemade.
In the middle we have some leftover oatmeal sweetened with a little agave

DINNER DAY 30

Dinner tonight and a great sushi restaurant in walnut, California. Here I'll show you how you can eat healthy while going out to great restaurants. On your left I have a salad with avocado topped with rice vinegar. On your right, is broiled yellowtail. I also enjoy a little sashimi on the side.

BREAKFAST DAY 31

2 poached eggs steamed over spinach, celery and sprinkled with crushed kale chips.
Surrounded by two tangerines and the beverage is coconut water and coconut meat. All organic.

DINNER DAY 31

On The road and stopping off at rainbow acres health store. Here I had some tuna and it was delicious.

DINNER DAY 32

Spinach quickly sautéed in a cast-iron skillet with avocado and some raw cheddar cheese,
along with a dash of coconut oil, and New Zealand sea salt.

Wendy's Tips: Working Out at the Gym

Here's what food and drink I consumed on my lose-the-gut mission today...

BREAKFAST DAY 27

Toasted whole grain muffin top with raw vegan flatbread consisting of zucchini, apple, flax seeds, coconut, Turmeric, onion, citron, cayenne pepper, Sereno pepper, black salt, dates, hemp seed butter that is raw and stone ground, almonds that are raw and unpasteurized and soaked and dehydrated sprinkled with raw agave and dehydrated raw coconut. Also we have a green smoothie consisting of kale, mixed berries, and dates. All organic

LUNCH DAY 27

Vegan flat bread along with homemade kale chips. All organic.

Here are some of the products I've eaten today. I like to stress that it's important to go organic and raw if possible. That's when you get the best nutrition into the body. I would avoid toasted nuts... if possible soak them for better digestion. If you get nut butters, try the ones that are stone ground... those are the best.

Stone ground nut butters.... OMG... Nuttin' better... It's the best way to go!

DINNER DAY 27

Sprouted Green lentils, egg placed on romaine lettuce and seasoned with New Zealand sea salt, black pepper and garlic.
All organic.

Feeling Great at Any Age

You must admit… Feeling great at any age is the ultimate goal of the good life. First, you have to believe it, and then you have to surround and immerse yourself with those that know it's possible. That's what seals in the belief. I tell my patients that the same activities that are done in their twenties, should be attainable in their nineties.... and that goes for all the activities that go on with your partner behind closed doors!

I believe it's so important to have mentors to look up to and inspire you, and I'd like to showcase one of my inspirational heroes of all times... Jack LaLanne, the Godfather of fitness.

If anyone can get you going... It was Jack LaLanne. Besides his contagious personality to find an excitement, he was a pioneer and extremely talented. He's known as the Godfather of fitness for a reason. He was the first to open a health club in the United States and to have an exercise show on television. In the beginning of his career doctors reportedly advised their patients not to go to his gym and called him a health nut.

Fitness Guru for the ages Jack LaLanne (age 91)
with David Allan. Both photos taken in 2005
He is famous for creating the "jumping
Jack" and is known for several clever comments about health including: "Your waistline is your lifeline", "10 seconds on the lips and a lifetime on the hips", and "People don't die of old age, they die of inactivity."

He's known for many health feats in the Guinness book of world records:

  • including He swam the length of the Golden Gate Bridge underwater, carrying 140 pounds of equipment at the age of 40 in 1954.
  • LaLanne did 1,033 pushups in 23 minutes in 1956.

BREAKFAST DAY 26

Hot whole grain oatmeal topped with cacao nibs, Black mission fig, hemp seeds , powdered the vanilla bean,
along with fresh orange and lemon juice blended with dates and topped with chia seeds. All organic.

LUNCH DAY 26

Leftover whole-grain oatmeal (see I didn't finish everything on my plate this morning), and a small bowl
of raw sugarcane pieces… Oh so delicious. Of course everything is organic.

DINNER DAY 26

10-grain Rice medley with quinoa, green smoothie consisting of kale mixed berries and dates,
and homemade kale chips. All organic.

DAY 25 of 60 - LOSE THE GUT CHALLENGE

There are three essential factors in all human activity: spirit, materials, and action.
Chiang Kai-shek
To understand how and why my Lose-The-Gut 60-Day Campaign got started click HERE

The Power of the Mind

The power of the mind can either empower or destroy us. To gravitate towards enlightenment, we must appreciate and harness this power to cultivate greatness that lies within us. I believe most of us want to improve ourselves, but get caught up in to the subconscious programming that controls our thoughts, ideas, and actions.

When I think back to my childhood, there's a huge gap in my understanding of really what happened during this time. All I have to go on are some pictures and my memory. In those gaps of time lies programming deep within my subconscious mind. Programming from my parents, my family, the media, and all my surroundings and experiences in my past shape who I am today. We don't realize all the loaded programs that influence our life.

Take for example a common phrase you've heard since childhood.... "Are you hungry or are you feeling hungry?" This is programming and can have a huge influence on internal personal issues with weight gain and weight loss.

I've been reminded of this programming from a recent audiobook I finished entitled Healing: Achieving Total Wellness Through Higher Levels Of Consciousness by Dr. David Hawkins, M.D. David sheds some excellent advice and insight on how we can change our programming and help us any attain any goal. This is a great read for anyone interested in healing and wellness.

Here's a cool article by Dr. Bruce H. Lipton PH.D. on how our parents with consciousness, act as Genetic Engineers for their kids... click HERE. Here's an excellent reminder of how to appreciate the power of the mind and how it can used to benefit the kids growing up today.

Part 1 of Dr. Wayne Dyer and Dr. Bruce Lipton have a discussion about
"The Biology Of Belief" on the Hay House Radio Stage at the I Can Do It! Las Vegas.

BREAKFAST DAY 25

Oh so good. Smoothie consisting of coconut water and mixed berries. The reason it looks so foamy is because of the added hydrolyzed collagen. Then we have a few raw, unpasteurized almonds that have been soaked and dehydrated and seasoned with agave and Chia seeds. Also there is cut up raw sugar cane, and of course the soft, sweet meat of the young coconut. All organic.

Here's pieces of a sugarcane stock that I purchased at the farmers market. If you come across these at the market, I suggest you buy a few. Then you can peel it and chew on it. These are especially good for those with a sweet tooth like me;)

LUNCH DAY 25

Homemade kale chips made of celery, onion, red bell pepper, nutritional yeast, garlic, and sea salt.
Green smoothie consisting of kale, mixed berries, and dates. All organic

DINNER DAY 25

How do you stay on a cleanse when you go to eat at a five star restaurant? Not easy but here goes... Organic kale salad with balsamic and lemon. Then let's add some very expensive organic grass fed beef at $25 an ounce… What a meal. I didn't lose any weight tonight, but also didn't gain any.

Thanks for tuning in and offering your support, and remember to always count your blessings,
